NORTHERN AMBOSELI: Tandala, is located in the hills of the Northern district of Amboseli, situated 105km South of Nairobi, Kenya's capital city where Jomo Kenyatta International Airport has daily flights to destinations across Europe. The nearest village is Il'Bisil. The Tanzania border at Namanga is 3/4 hrs. drive from Tandala. For those interested in colonial history there is a WW1 gun emplacement which can be viewed on the property. Il'Bisil was a base for British troops and gets its name from Somali prisoners of war and loosely translated means "Place of Nourishment" For the short time we are here on this earth we feel it is of prime importance to try and protect this small piece of Africa. We frequently patrol the area for snares and do our utmost to protect the game. Our neighbours feel the same so we have left fences open where possible to allow the game to roam freely between our properties. You may see: Buffalo, Lesser Kudu, Impala, Eland, Waterbuck, Bushbuck, Duiker, Dik-Dik, Warthog, Hyena, Ostrich, Giraffe and Leopard in the area. Lion have been heard at night and we have spotted Wild Dogs, Aardvark, and the occasional Wildebeest and Zebra. Amboseli park, just 1 3/4 hrs. drive from Tandala through Maasai land, is famous for being the best place in Africa to get close to free-ranging elephants among other wildlife species. Other attractions include opportunities to meet the Maasai and spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world. Amboseli and its big skies and far horizons combined with swampy springs and dry and dusty earth trampled by hundreds of animals is a beautiful park. The park has an endless underground water supply filtered through thousands of feet of volcanic rock from Kilimanjaro's ice cap, which funnel into two clear water springs in the heart of the park.
